I’m an absolute sucker for comedy anime. Give me chaos, give me laughs, throw in some absurdity, and I’m all in. Below is my non-negotiable top 20, my go-to anime for a gut-busting good time. So, if you’re in the mood to laugh until you’re in physical pain, you’re definitely in the right place. Scroll down and enjoy.
1. Gintama
4 seasons | 367 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Hulu
Aliens, samurais, and dirty jokes come together in a glorious roast where everyone and every anime trope gets burned. If there was a line to cross, Gintama probably snorted it. A comedy riot, especially if you’re a seasoned anime fan and can catch all the references.
2. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
3 seasons | 120 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix
Being psychic isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially if you’re Saiki K., an introvert with a dead-inside vibe. You can’t help but feel for the poor, overpowered guy surrounded by a bunch of loons, but also, you’re too busy cracking up at his misery. Gag comedy gold.
3. Daily Lives of High School Boys
1 season | 12 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation
Remember those dumb ideas that your hormone-fueled self and friends thought were brilliant? These dorks do them. It’s a merciless roast of male adolescence, where every day is another chance to be hilariously pathetic. You’ll laugh until it hurts because cringe is too real.
4. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!
2 seasons | 20 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Hulu
Imagine getting Isekai’d into a fantasy world with the expectation of adventure and glory, only to end up with the biggest group of losers. KonoSuba takes the Isekai genre, beats it with a stick, and then laughs at its misfortune. A parody so savage, you’ll almost feel guilty for laughing.
5. My Ordinary Life (Nichijou)
1 season | 26 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation
The title is a big fat lie. There’s nothing ordinary about a robot schoolgirl, a talking cat, or a principal wrestling a deer. Nichijou is surreal, unpredictable, and has some of the best face-falls in anime history. Those who dislike absurdist humor need not apply.
6. Ouran High School Host Club
1 season | 26 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu
A girl on a scholarship in a school for the obscenely rich accidentally becomes part of a host club full of pretty, bougie guys. This is a brilliant takedown of every Shoujo anime trope—flamboyant, self-aware and so charmingly funny it’ll slap that cynical smirk right off your face.
7. Grand Blue Dreaming
1 season | 12 episodes
Watch on: Prime Video
A Seinen anime that’s supposed to be about diving, but really, it’s about a bunch of college idiots doing idiotic things. And it’s hysterically spot-on about the experience—if your uni experience was watching your drunk friends embarrass themselves and loving every minute of it.
8. Great Teacher Onizuka
1 season | 43 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll
Onizuka is a former gang member turned teacher whose methods are unconventional, morals questionable, and heart in the right place (sort of). It’s like watching Deadpool trying to turn a class of misfits around: offensive, lagh-out-loud funny and unbelievably touching.

9. Asobi Asobase: Workshop of Fun
1 season | 12 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll
Cute girls doing cute things? More like deranged demons plotting the next scheme to get one over each other. This is basically social Darwinism with a side of slapstick, and it’s both horrifying and hilarious. If you like your comedy evil, this is where you park your broom.
10. One Punch Man
2 seasons | 24 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Hulu
Saitama’s life is a joke, and the punchline is he can end any fight with a single punch. Watching villains hype themselves up just to get b*tch-slapped into oblivion never gets old. The superhero spoof is strong, the action is over the top, and the existential crisis is real.
11. Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun
1 season | 12 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll
Nozaki is a big lug of a shoujo mangaka who wouldn’t know a romantic cue if it whacked him with a bouquet of roses. So, those swoony confessions and dreamy gazes? This is where they go to die a hilarious death. The ultimate troll on anime love stories.
12. The Devil Is A Part-Timer
1 season | 13 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu
The mighty have fallen! The Dark Lord gets the boot from hell and ends up in Tokyo serving fries and battling the greatest evil known to man: the minimum wage life. A hilarious twist on Isekai power fantasies, showing even demons can’t dodge capitalism.
13. Kaguya-sama: Love Is War
2 seasons | 24 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu
Psychological warfare meets romantic comedy. Kaguya and Miyuki are high school geniuses locked in a mental deathmatch, because admitting you like each other is for plebs, apparently. The funniest and smartest dumb love story you’ll ever get obsessed with.
14. Azumanga Daioh: The Animation
1 season | 26 episodes
Watch on: n/a
This is the OG “cute girls doing completely random things” comedy. Each character quirk is dialed up to eleven and the mundane becomes the insane. And hallucinogenic cats. Perfect if you love your comedy oddball, your characters moe, and your plotlines nonexistent.
15. Hinamatsuri
1 season | 12 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Disney+
A psychic tween with the emotional range of a teaspoon drops into a yakuza’s life, and instead of world domination, they go for father-daughter bonding. It’s an odd-couple setup cranked to the max, mixing wholesome moments, slapstick comedy and ESP-powered property damage.
16. Assasination Classroom
2 seasons | 47 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu
A yellow squid alien is schooling a misfit class on how to kill him before he nukes Earth (stick with me here). Only, this freak turns out to be the best teacher these kids ever had. Yeah, one minute you’re cracking up and wiping tears the next. Thanks for the existential crisis, anime.

17. Spy x Family
2 seasons | 37 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu
Twilight, a top-tier spy, is faking a family for a mission. Plot twist? His fake daughter is a telepath and his fake wife is an assassin. And the man is clueless about both. A mix of action, comedy, and cute moments that make you go “aww” right before you bust a gut laughing.
18. Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan
1 season | 13 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll, Funimation
Uramichi is here to crush your childhood memories. A kid’s show host who’s a walking, talking meltdown, and his honesty is both depressing and funny (because the alternative is crying). A must-watch Josei anime for anyone who’s ever suspected that adulthood is a scam.
19. Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto
1 season | 13 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll
Sakamoto is that guy who’s too cool for school, literally. He dodges every attempt to bring him down with such overkill swagger that you kinda want to punch him in the face. Peak comedy if you want to see someone live their best life while everyone else eats s**t.
20. Cromartie High School
1 season | 26 episodes
Watch on: Crunchyroll
It’s a high school for delinquents, minus the heartwarming redemption stories. Cromartie lampoons the tough-guy genre with a minuscule plot, a bunch of dim-witted badasses and testosterone-fueled nonsense. So stupid it circles back to genius.
And that’s my rundown of the funniest anime out there. If you were looking for a sign to start watching any of these shows, this is it. Just remember to leave your sensibilities at the door because you won’t be needing them here.
